VHS, VHS-C, MiniDV, Hi8 and Digital8 transferred to a digital file — emailed to you or put on a USB stick. No more digging out the VCR. About a week, and you can drop tapes in or courier them to us.

Slides, negatives & prints scanned

Old 35mm slides, negatives and loose prints scanned and emailed as 16-base JPEGs, around 3600 × 2600 pixels — big enough to reprint from. Small orders usually take a few days.

Dust, scratches, fading, water damage, missing corners. We work from a scan of your original, so the print itself is never altered.

Copy prints

A new print made from an original you already have — for photos that are damaged, faded, or the only copy in the family. Needs work first? We can restore it before we print.

Camera clean & check

For a film camera that's been in a cupboard for twenty years. We clean it and check the essentials are working, so you know where you stand before you put a film through it.

What happens after you hand it over

Everything is booked in at the counter with your name and number on it, and it stays in the store while we work on it.

Bring it in, or courier it with your contact details in the parcel
We check it over and tell you what's possible before any work starts
If a job turns out to need more than expected, we call you first
Your originals come back to you with the finished work

Common questions

How long will it take?

Tape transfers take about a week. Small scanning orders are usually a few days. Restoration depends on how much work the photo needs — we'll tell you when you drop it in.

Can I post my tapes or photos to you?

Yes. Courier them to the Lower Hutt store with your name, phone number and email in the parcel and we'll take it from there. Most people drop in, but there's no need to if you're out of town.

How do I get the files back?

By email for anything small enough to send, or on a USB stick. The USB isn't included in the price — bring your own or buy one from us. Your originals come back to you either way.

Do you repair cameras, or only clean them?

We clean and check, which covers most cameras that have simply been sitting unused. Anything needing real repair work we'll look at and tell you whether it's worth doing.

I only have the print, not the negative. Can you still fix it?

Yes — that's the usual case. We scan the print, work on the scan, and give you back a new print. The original is never altered.
